The Unfolding of Barry's 1965
Built between 1901 and 1905, the building was a men's clothing haberdashery until the Great Depression, then a boarding house that kept selling clothes out front. It is the oldest commercial building in downtown Carencro.
In 2015 Bryan and Sandy Breaux bought it and, with their families' help, remodeled it into Swanky's. Sandy passed away in 2021; Bryan's brother Swanky, sister Tessie and niece Nicole carried the restaurant three more years before Bryan decided it was time to pass the torch.
Barry and Rhonda Reeves had retired in 2022 after more than forty years in food and service. When Barry heard Swanky's was closing, he knew this was the place for one last adventure: doing what his mom taught him to do. Cook, eat, and give the best service possible.
With Rhonda, Tessie and Nicole beside him, Barry's 1965 is a place for locals and repeat travelers to enjoy his simple, comforting creations.
